In collaboration with Erin Walski, Jenny Li, and Sydney Lundin

Based off a bridge in Gallup Park in Ann Arbor, we designed a bridge to replace it in a 1:25 scale using steel and sycamore hardwood

The bridge we picked in the park was the one bridge for both pedestrians and cars. We measured the bridge to the best of our ability. The gallery above contains images of the original bridge that we redesigned. After our project was complete, we went back to take more photos and part of the hand railing had fallen off, causing the city to put up a chainlink fence (which is visible in some of the photos).

The process for this project was to first test the strength of different forms with a mock bridge using a bucket of sand (seen below).

We worked as a group to design the bridge, order the parts, and build the bridge itself.

As a part of this collaborative effort, I helped with the calculations decided on how much material we needed to order, gave input on the design, prepared and MIG welded a ton of steel, helped cut wood, and did the general assembly.

This project took place in December of 2019 and was one of my first large-scale collaborative works.
